Bathymetry and Seabed Survey – Al Ghubrah
IWP Plant

GIS Mappers successfully delivered a high-resolution bathymetry and seabed survey at the Al Ghubrah Independent Water Project (IWP) Plant in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. As a critical facility within Oman’s water infrastructure network, the Al Ghubrah IWP plays a central role in desalinated water supply to Muscat and surrounding regions. Our marine survey services were commissioned to support the design of seawater intake and outfall pipelines, ensuring safe alignment, engineering feasibility, and environmental compliance.

The survey covered nearshore marine zones adjacent to the IWP plant, where precise depth profiling and seabed classification were essential. GIS Mappers deployed advanced hydrographic survey technology, including RTK GNSS, single-beam and multibeam echo sounders (SBES/MBES), sound velocity profilers, and tide gauges. The data acquisition process strictly adhered to IHO S-44 standards and followed industry protocols for marine utility corridor mapping.

To meet the project’s goals, our team carried out pre-survey planning, real-time tidal monitoring, and sonar-based seabed imaging. Special attention was given to sediment transport patterns, underwater slopes, and obstruction detection—crucial for infrastructure projects involving pipeline trenching or subsea installation. Data processing and charting were completed using Hypack®, Qimera®, and Civil 3D software platforms.

The final deliverables included bathymetric maps, seabed terrain models, georeferenced digital data (XYZ/DTM/GeoTIFF), and technical reports covering quality assurance, tidal calibration, and survey methodology. This data now serves as a foundational reference for the plant’s offshore works and long-term marine planning strategies.

This project reinforces GIS Mappers' reputation as a trusted provider of bathymetric and hydrographic survey services in Oman and across the GCC. By combining local expertise with global standards, we continue to support critical water infrastructure development through accurate, reliable, and timely marine data acquisition.
