Pre Bathymetric Survey – Quriyat Fishing
Harbour

GIS Mappers carried out a detailed pre-dredging bathymetric survey at Quriyat Fishing Harbour, located in the Muscat Governorate of the Sultanate of Oman. This survey, commissioned by Marine Technology, was essential for understanding the existing seabed profile and calculating the dredging volume required for safe navigation and harbour enhancement.

The survey utilized an Odom Hydrotrac Echo Sounder operating at 200 kHz, coupled with a Valeport Tide Gauge for tidal correction. Positioning was controlled using a Sokkia RTK GPS, while depth data logging was managed via navigation software that converted GPS-derived coordinates to UTM (WGS 84 datum). The tidal data collected was referenced to Lowest Astronomical Tide (LAT).

Bar checks were conducted daily before survey operations to ensure equipment calibration and measurement consistency. The survey took place on July 11, 2012, and was executed with meticulous care to maintain IHO S-44 Order 1a standards.

The final bathymetry chart was prepared at a suitable scale to support accurate dredging estimation. The seabed across the surveyed area exhibited irregular features and shallow profiles, with exposed sand bars identified near the central harbour zone during low tide. These findings enabled precise calculation of dredging quantities, essential for harbour development planning.

This successful hydrographic assessment highlights GIS Mappers' expertise in marine survey services across Oman, supporting sustainable port development through precision seabed mapping and data-driven dredging assessments.
