Pre-Dredging Bathymetric Survey –
Masira Port

GIS Mappers successfully completed a pre-dredging bathymetric survey for Masira Port, located in Al-Wasta Governorate, Sultanate of Oman. Commissioned by Marine Technology, the survey provided essential baseline data on seabed profiles along the designated dredging area on the seaward boundary of the port.

The survey was executed using an Odom Hydrotrac MKIII Dual Frequency Echo Sounder operating at 210 kHz and 33 kHz. Data was logged digitally through the navigation system integrated with Hemisphere DGPS and HydroPro software. The coordinates were converted into UTM Zone 40Q referencing WGS84 with vertical corrections based on Chart Datum (CD).

Bathymetric data was captured at 20-meter intervals across each survey line. Pre-survey calibration included daily bar checks and tide correction through a Valeport Tide Gauge. All data streams were synchronized and logged in real time for precise seabed mapping.

The survey results revealed shallow seabed conditions with irregular features, including exposed rock and sandbars during low tide near the central region of the port. A bathymetric chart at a 1:2500 scale was generated, providing high-resolution insight for dredging planning and marine construction activities.

The pre-bathymetric survey supports Marine Technology and stakeholders in executing safe and efficient dredging works while aligning with environmental and regulatory requirements in Oman.
