Bathymetric Survey – Near Doga, Saudi Arabia

GIS Mappers was appointed by Environmental Horizons Co. to carry out a high-accuracy bathymetric survey near Doga, along the western coastal waters of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The objective of this marine survey was to collect precise depth measurements and seabed data to support ongoing infrastructure development and environmental planning activities. This strategic data would be critical for project design, coastal monitoring, and marine engineering applications.

The survey scope involved full-coverage bathymetric mapping of a predefined area using advanced multi-beam echo sounding systems. GIS Mappers deployed a full suite of hydrographic equipment including an M3 Sonar depth echo sounder, Hemisphere V113 GNSS with IMU support, Leica RTK GPS receivers, and the Aquaread AP2000 for sound velocity profiling. All data acquisition and post-processing were carried out using industry-standard Hypack® and Hysweep® software.

Following international best practices and IHO S-44 hydrographic survey standards, the data was collected under the UTM-WGS 84 coordinate system. The vertical reference was tied to the official Saudi Tide Table using Al Qunfuda as the reference tide station. The survey vessel operated along precisely plotted transects to ensure consistent coverage across the full area of interest. In shallow sections or during acoustic anomalies, localized resurveying was promptly undertaken to maintain continuity.

Despite the operational constraints posed by tidal cycles and weather variations, the GIS Mappers team completed the two-day campaign in January 2021 with high precision. The final deliverables included digital bathymetric maps, XYZ datasets, and 3D seabed models, all of which have been used by Environmental Horizons to support their project assessments and planning workflows.
