Fishery Harbour Bathymetric Survey –
Oman Coast

GIS Mappers was contracted to perform detailed bathymetric surveys at six proposed Fishery Harbour sites across the coast of Oman, as part of Worley Parsons' marine infrastructure development program. These surveys were critical for ensuring accurate seabed data to support optimized harbour design, preventing under or over-construction.

The scope of work included establishing horizontal and vertical survey benchmarks, executing single beam echo sounding, and processing hydrographic data at each of the six coastal locations. The final deliverables were used for coastal engineering design and tendering documentation.

To ensure precise results, GIS Mappers deployed an Odom Hydrotrac Echo Sounder (200 kHz), Valeport Tide Gauge, Sokkia RTK GPS, and Total Station equipment. Each survey commenced with a pre-survey site investigation to define safe working zones and verify client objectives.

During operations, automatic water level recorders were installed at each harbour site to track tidal variation, ensuring reliable vertical referencing. Daily CTD dips and bar checks were conducted to validate sound speed accuracy. All positional and depth data were logged and processed using HydroPro software, transformed into UTM coordinates based on WGS84 datum.

Surveys were conducted at 20-meter intervals along predefined lines, capturing high-resolution data across the entire harbour footprint. The outputs included DWG-format bathymetric charts, ASCII XYZ datasets, and contour maps for future infrastructure planning and bidding.

This project reaffirmed GIS Mappers’ expertise in marine geospatial services and hydrographic data acquisition, contributing significantly to the sustainable development of Oman’s fishery sector.
